about

This song was roughly inspired by a monologue by Charlie Chaplin from the ending of his motion picture "The Great Dictator" If you haven't seen it search on youtube. Its really quite brilliant. Don't know how, but the track took on a gaelic vibe.

lyrics

as long as language has been spoken
we've used words to keep spirits broken
seems its always been that way
is this learned or in our d n a?
we don't know our neighbors
we don't know ourselves
lives spent at labor
dreams put on the shelf
long since these seeds were sewn
our lives became rent to own

but we all want comfort when its cold and dark
in the sea of life swimming with the sharks
we work so hard just to leave our mark
is this all in vain?

our lives are measured with a dollar sign
this sort of thinking has made us unkind
machine hearts with mechanical minds
we can't afford to live this way
we've forgone mercy and we've embraced the greed
when its kindness and compassion that's what we need
there's so much pain and so much grief
over differing beliefs

but we all want comfort when its cold and dark
in the sea of life swimming with the sharks
we work so hard just to leave our mark
is this all in vain?

its the same old story around the world
regardless of color whether you're boy or a girl
we all like each other till our flags are unfurled
there must be a better way

(Whoa Whoa)

we pray at the alter of technology
to the detriment of our biology
we're undermining our ecology
we're chopping down our family trees

we all want comfort when its cold and dark
in the sea of life swimming with the sharks
we work so hard just to leave our mark
is this all in vain?
