pacid and still as I make my approach
a huge sheet of glassy perfection
though not my intent,
broken shards are far sent
a result of my bold interjection
aimlessly drifting
my subconscious sifting
for memories worthy of record
of quests long forgotten
of rites ill-begotten
of the knights with the swords made of cardboard


with my face toward the heavens
my limbs nines and sevens
i aimlessly search for a vision
a piece of a mystery
crammed between history
and tables of long hand division
i can still hear
the young herald's call
for lads seeking no earthly reward
off to save a faire maiden
with steeled nerves unshaken
we knights with our swords made of cardboard

such a brave band of brothers were we
pledging an oath to the end
for those long dog days we were so free
we couldn't have been older than ten


so placid now, as i take my bow
adrift in the glassy perfection
escaping detection
the suns warm reflection
falls across my old smiling face
to my crusades long past i'll raise my glass
and drink the greatest rewards
with my standard held high

HB Radke has music in his blood. The son of Harry James Orchestra frontman Fred Radke and vocalist Gina Funes, HB started on the trumpet at the age of 8. He started his own big band just a few years after that. His career as a vocalist began in his teens.

For 2011 he has resolved to write and record at least one original song per week. As of September 2011, he is 4 weeks ahead of schedule. ... more
