about

To be honest I wrote 90% of three different tunes and just couldn't decide so I went into the vault and pulled out this older composition of mine that I recorded with the Jet City Swingers. I wrote it to feature our bassist the late, great Mr Peter Vinikow. He was my friend, my brother, my bandmate and my mentor. When I was recalling some stories about Peter to Rusty Urie I mentioned that I missed Peter very much to which he replied "Music misses Peter"

You can hear just a hint of his virtuosity on his instrument.

lyrics

the Jet City Swingers are on the case
got everybody jumping at a steady pace
gonna blow the roof right off this pace
with the help of our own low not ace
(shouted) HEY PETER!
(peter) WHAT?
Lay down some bass

Man the joint is jumping
Here that baseline bumping
Aint he really something
Dig that cat on bass.

People all come from miles around
just to dig his hard groovin' swingin' sound
among hepcats he's world renown
for laying the best walking baselines down
(shouted) HEY PETER!
(peter) WHAT?
Make like Ray Brown

Man the joint is jumping
Here that baseline bumping
Aint he really something
Dig that cat on bass.

He started on the bass at the age of six
by the age of eight he knew all the tricks
he would listen to Oscar, Frank, and Nat
until he had every lick down pat
(shouted) HEY PETER!
(peter) WHAT?
Scat baby! Scat!

(shouted) HEY PETER!
(peter) WHAT?
nevermind.
