about

This is my attempt at some Gospel-flavored Country Western with a pinch of Randy Newman thrown in.

lyrics

Common Heartbreak
Words and Music by HB Radke

I don’t know why, but sometime I cry
for no good reason, that i can determine.
I wake up at night, cursing the light,
wondering how I got to this house I live in.

The doctors all say I’m depressed
and prob’bly thats a real good guess
they say that they’ll cure me with some pills that I can take.
But theres no medication – regardless of station
there’s no cure for the Common Heartbreak

This awful condition, it feels like perdition of
my own creation in which i must dwell.
So i ask God to save me, with the voice that he gave me.
But I spend each night all alone, that’s just as well.

So i put on my Sunday best, try to fit in with the rest.
But this season’s styles are much more thanI can take
]The latest fashion is new lover’s passion,
and I’m wearing the Common Heartbreak

Oh time keeps on passin’, and I keep on asking.
Oh lord! When will I feel better?
Nothin’ feels right, and try as I might,
theres no way, theres no way I can forget her.

I feared the love that she gave me, would surely enslave me.
but emancipation is what she gave.
Time can’t be reversed, so forever I’m cursed
To long for this love til I’m dead and in my grave.

So I say my prayers and amens, but lightning it won’t strike again.
Besides, I hear she’s getting married and moving off to the Cape.
These is no distance, that will weaken the persistence
nor cure the Common Heartbreak.
