about

uptempo rock tune about innocence of youth

lyrics

i grew up in a typical town
in a two bedroom rambler
a little run down
smack dab in the middle
of an average street
with cookie cutter neighbors
wash, rinse and repeat
our next door neighbor
was an epic hottie
every day she'd by the pool
doing Pilates

I used to mow their lawns kept them pristine
on an endless rolling sea of green
i was just a boy barely seventeen
chasing the american dream

she had a lot of really cute friends
they'd drop the top and then they
hop into her mercedes benz
they sit and talk watch me mowing her lawn
sometimes they'd have me spreading coconut oil on
they liked to tease me
'cause i had no girlfriend
they made me feel real bad
my love life had been condemned

I used to mow their lawns kept them pristine
on an endless rolling sea of green
she took my hand when I turned eighteen
showed me the american dream
soccer moms leading secret lives
their husbands thought they bought stepford wives
the truth would come as some surprise
i was loving the american dream

when i think
about those nights
that crazy love
under the moonlight
it must be
at least to me
the happiest time of my life

the other day took my kids to the park
when they asked me I grew up so i turned on a lark
started navigating to the far end of town
the perfect lawns where gone they were dried up and brown
we used to try so hard to kept up with the jones
you cant tell now if he's loaded but the gun that he owns is

I mowed their lawns kept them pristine
on an endless rolling sea of green
she made me a man when I turned eighteen
I was loving the american dream
soccer moms leading secret lives
their husbands thought they had stepford wives
the truth would come as some surprise
i was loving the american dream
the things we did were almost obscene
i cant believe it happened to me
like the letters to a girlie magazine
